Focus on What We Can Control

How many of us have been angry over something that we cannot control? I know I have and I am willing to bet that the answer for most of the rest of us is the same. The next question to ask ourselves is, did the reaction we had in those situations have a positive or negative effect? Most likely it was a negative one. We can definitely make situations worse by how we react to them, but we can also make situations better by how we react to them as well. For example, think about when someone gets a new car. What usually happens is that person will start seeing more and more of “their new car” on the road. More than likely there wasn’t a huge surge in sales of that specific car that week, but that person is noticing more of them because their new car is at the forefront of their mind. The same thing applies with our attitude or reactions to situations. If we focus on all of the bad things that are happening in our lives, we will actually notice more of these things happening to us. On the flip side if we focus on the positives then we will actually notice more of the positive things that happen to us. The one thing I want all of us to take from this is that the only thing we can truly control in our lives is how we react to any given situation. Next time it seems like everything in your life is going the wrong direction, or even that the universe is working against you, focus on your reaction to these situations and try to focus on the positives. There is a great quote that fits in with this perfectly and it is “sometimes in life you will feel like you have been buried, when you have actually been planted”. This means that sometimes the things that seem like the end of the world, are actually the things that are preparing you for the great things that are to follow. Try to take these situations and make them the best thing that has ever happened to you. Hope you found this useful and see you all in the gym!
